Description
Santini Extra Virgin Olive Oil is imported from Italy where
nearly a third of the world’s olive oil is produced. Italian
olive oil is famous for its superior quality which is, in part, due
to the long history of olive oil production in this country.
Historical documents indicate that the cultivation of olives on the
Italian peninsula dates back to the Neolithic era (5,000 BC). In later
ages, olive oil acquired an economic and commercial importance and, during
the time of the Roman Empire, its export was controlled by the central
government. In the Middle Ages, the cultivation of the olive was further
encouraged by religious orders. Ancient oil presses and mills dating
from the 6th to the 10th centuries are still in existence today. Olive
trees dating back to before the birth of Christ are still there to remind
us how long olive oil has been with us.
Santini’s flavorful and wholesome extra virgin olive oil
can be used raw in dressings or as a condiment for salads, vegetables,
pastas, soups, seafoods and meats. We also find that our extra
virgin olive oil is unsurpassed for cooking. Our extra virgin
olive oil comes from the first pressing of olives by mechanical (not
chemical) means and contains less than 1 percent of oleic acid.
